Big Boy's Turning 3

It's Party Time
Can't believe Big Man is almost 3 Years OLD!!!  Feels like just yesterday I was like this

It is so true what they all say..."don't blink because in a second it will be gone".  My baby went from this   to this in the blink of an eye!  So how shall we celebrate the 3rd year of this amazing boy's life?   Not quite sure yet!  Since Jordan loves to be outside we would love to have his party at the new Zhara Baker playground but just afraid it will be too cold.  Other options are the usual-Chucke Cheese or Hickory Dickory Dock...but they are just so overpriced and don't really cater to younger children!  Ugh, decisions, decisions.....but I think we have decided on going with a Mickey Mouse theme (since he is currently obssessed with Mickey Mouse Clubhouse).  So here are some of my ideas so far

Falling into Fall

That moment when you walk outside, you catch that scent, a little whif...you know that FALL is in the air.  There is nothing more I love than the changes of seasons!  Fall with its-Football, chilly days, scarves, boots, leaves falling, pumpkin patches, apple festivals and that oh so glorious smell!!  It's the time of year where I long for my home-the mountains or Asheville, NC.  Nothing can come close to comparing to the sight of the mountains as the leaves are changing to those unexplainable oranges, browns, reds and yellows.  The drive there through Marion, up Old Fort and past Black Mountain I feel them calling me, calling me home.  Since my wonderful husband is from the mountains as well, we can both share in the nostalgia (forgive my spelling?) of what this beautiful place means to us!  And we are now passing that love to our next generation-our son Jordan absolutely loves being outside and LOVES going to Asheville.  This time of year I have to double check his pockets before I throw them into the wash-pulling out acorns and leaves that he has decided he needs to keep for later.

Happy Happy Holidays!

Soooo in love with the Holiday season...it just makes me so happy!  Super excited to find so many fun crafts and ideas for this season (Halloween, Thanksgiving and my favorite CHRISTMAS!)  And now my little boy is big enough to start doing all of these fun things too!  What is it about the Holidays that make people so happy?  Is it the smell of pumpkin spice, the crafts, the decorations, the gift giving, making people you love smile or just spending time with our family?  For me, I think it is a combination of them all.

I want to be the teacher

Our children have really started expressing an interest in playing "teacher" so we have set up several of the centers with access to "teacher things".  We also let them draw/write on the group time easel and use our group time pointers during their free play.  It is so neat to see them acting out things that we have done at circle time!  You can tell they are really learning and paying attention to what you are saying!
Reading the big "Brown Bear Brown Bear" book to her friends and using the pointer to point to the words and the pictures!

What will Mrs. Danielle's baby be?

Today is the day Mrs. Danielle finds out what she is going to be having-girl or boy?  We are all Sooo excited!  Our class made a graph of what we thought she was going to have!  The children were very excited to show it to her and it was an awesome way to work on our graphing!

What do you think?
This is what our class thought:
We think GIRL!!!  We will find out tomorrow!

Getting Ready for Valentines Day

I have found SO many cute ideas for Valentines Day-decided I would post them here to share with my friends and so I would remember them all (since I am just the slightest bit ADD).

Super Cute Valentine holders (Different from the same old shoeboxes)-or just cute decorations.

I have many children that love copying words-any words....we have started working in writing journals-where the children have some sort of a prompt.  We have done this at group time and for the most part the children really get into it.  I usually write a word that has to do with what we are writing/drawing about and the children copy it onto their paper.  I am working on focusing where we start writing (top left corner, writing left to right) and showing them that it is very important that we put the letters in the correct order for it to spell the word we are wanting to write.  Then I have them draw a picture about the prompt.  After they are finished I either dictate their drawing or help some of the more advanced children sound out some of the words they are wanting to use.  Super excited to post this for our Valentines writing journals (may only put a few, not all since we are PreK).  I will also put the words in writing center for the children to have access to during center time.

Getting Organized

Looking around my classroom I have decided that I am ready for this craziness to get organized and cute!  I swear pinterest is the greatest thing I have ever come across....I can steal ideas from all kinds of teachers and they are glad to give them to me!  .  Looking around my class I realized that a) it is not very aesthetically pleasing (forgive my spelling please) b) there is no "method" to my madness c) I desperately want to have a super cute classroom that every child wants to be in and every teacher wants to copy!  I quickly realized that I have always had a "crafty" sole, I just needed a little direction.  I always see things and buy them thinking-that would be so cute to use, but then get too scared that I will mess them up by painting them or changing them so I do nothing and simply put them in the closet.  Well thank you to all the "DIY" pins I have now had the courage to "Do It Myself"!!!!   Yay!  To start out I decided to work on my Reading Center.  I am almost done and will post pictures soon!  The children have already been drawn towards the pretty new reading center!  I am also going to start matching my "bins" to each other and to the colors of each center.  You don't really think about how the little things like mismatched bins can change a look of a classroom until you see pictures of classes with things that match.

Here Goes Nothing

Here goes nothing...I have decided to finally join the "Blog World".  Decided I wanted to have somewhere to put things that I am doing in my PreK classroom and add things that I want to do as well!  I hope you you all enjoy:)

Here is one thing I just made for my class thanks to a pin from pinterest that my children absolutely love!  This has to do with our Winter theme.
